Washington continues to support PKK, former US diplomat says

Former Deputy Secretary of State Matthew Bryza made significant remarks about Turkish-American relations in an interview with journalist Esra Karahindiba.

In the interview published by the news website Harici, Bryza asserted that Turkish-American relations were improving and stated that Israel's war on Palestine would not negatively impact the relationship between Ankara and Washington.

Türkiye's support for Hamas will not disrupt US-Türrkiye relations

Bryza said, "President Erdogan's statements regarding Hamas will not negatively affect relations; on the contrary, relations between Türkiye and the US are improving."

Continuing his remarks, Bryza highlighted Türkiye's potential as a guarantor state in the Palestinian issue, stating, "Türkiye can clearly play a beneficial role. I believe Washington is starting to recognize this."

US support for PKK/YPG persists

Highlighting that one of the most important disagreements in Turkish-American relations, the issue of F-16s, has been resolved, Bryza said, "Nevertheless, Washington's support for the terrorist organizations PKK/YPG continues. This will remain one of the fundamental issues on Ankara's agenda. Messages suggesting that bilateral relations have entered a new phase are still being conveyed. But there is no change in this terrorism issue."

Bryza emphasized the reliability of Türkiye's arguments regarding the PKK/YPG terrorist organization, stating, "Considering that the terrorist organization PKK/YPG is one of the problems in Syria, we can say that it directly creates a problem on the Turkish border."

Obama acted in bad faith

Bryza recalled that the U.S. began supporting the terrorist organization PKK during the Barack Obama administration, stating, "The US decided to work with the YPG for the first time during the Obama era. Knowing that the YPG is a terrorist organization, they decided insincerely to change its name to the Syrian Democratic Forces. This was truly an example of bad faith."

Diaspora organizations engage in anti-Türkiye propaganda

Bryza emphasized that the Armenian diaspora, Greek diaspora, and Gulenist Terror Group (FETO) create misinformation regarding Türkiye. He pointed out that as a result of the activities of these groups, Americans misunderstand Türkiye's counterterrorism operations, falsely portraying Türkiye as if it targets all Kurds.

FETO finances American politicians

Bryza drew attention to the influence of the FETO in U.S. politics, stating, "FETO has trained, nurtured, and financed US congressional members and even state assembly members."
