Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs arrives in Ukraine in solidarity

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen traveled to Ukraine on Thursday to show his solidarity with the Ukrainian people on the first anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Cohen became the first Israeli minister to travel to Ukraine since the conflict broke out on February 24, 2022.

Cohen will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

“I came to say that Israel stands by Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in its difficult hour,” tweeted Cohen upon his arrival.

The Israeli embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, will be permanently reopened. Cohen will also attend the embassy opening ceremony during his visit to Kiev.

UKRAINE HAS DEMANDS

Before the visit, Kiev made a series of demands from Israel. These demands included a $500 million loan in support of a peace plan that envisions access to medical services and treatment and joint development of missile defense technology in Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was considering providing military aid to Kiev and was willing to mediate between the two countries. After that, Russia warned Israel not to arm Ukraine.

Israel, on the other hand, avoids arming Ukraine directly because it does not want a possible security threat to arise.
