United States and European Union cannot warn Russia: Vladimir Putin

The European Union (EU) countries and the United States (US), cannot warn Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the 20th Valday International Discussion Club Meeting in Sochi, Russia.

"The United States is attempting to destroy international law and establish a new order. They are trying to replace international law with a new order. What kind of order? Based on certain rules. Which rules? What kind of rules, who invented them? It's completely unclear. But it's complete rubbish. All this is often done and said in an arrogant manner. All this is a manifestation of colonial thinking. We always hear 'You have to do it, you are obliged to do it, we are warning you seriously'. Who are you? Where do you get the right to warn us? This is really bewildering," Putin said.

'ENEMY TO NOT SURVIVE'

The Russian President made statements on how they will respond in the event of a possible attack against Russia from Western countries.

"Our response to a nuclear attack will not be pleasant for the attacking side. The enemy will have no chance of survival," he emphasized.

RUSSIA'S NATO REQUEST REJECTED

Putin stated that Russia had previously requested to join NATO but had been ridiculed.

"At one time we even asked to join NATO, but then they laughed at us and said, 'No'. I have already told this openly to our allies, and to our partners. At one point I personally suggested, 'Maybe we should join NATO too?' But they said, 'No, NATO doesn't need such a country, no'," he said.

'KARABAKH, TERRITORY OF AZERBAIJAN'

The Russian head of state also touched upon the Karabakh issue, which has recently been on the world agenda.

"After 2020, when the conflict broke out, Russian peacekeepers only checked the observance of the ceasefire in this region. However, this situation changed after Karabakh was recognized as Azerbaijani territory. If Armenia maintains allied relations with Russia, Russia will continue to provide assistance to the Karabakh Armenians," Putin noted.

He also emphasized that Russia made some proposals to both Azerbaijan and Armenia during the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"15 years ago, we proposed to Armenia that 5 regions in Karabakh be given to Azerbaijan and 2 regions be given to Armenia. However, this proposal was rejected by Armenia," he added.

'UKRAINE'S PLAN IS TO ATTACK TURKISH STREAM PIPELINE'

Referring to the Ukraine-Russia War, Putin claimed that the Ukrainian army had lost more than 50 thousand soldiers since the beginning of the war. However, he stated that despite the losses, Ukraine continued to attack them and strategic points.

"We continue to deliver gas to Europe via the Turkish Stream. But it seems that Ukrainian terrorist groups want to damage this pipeline. There are constant attacks on this pipeline, including attacks by unmanned drones speaking English," Putin emphasized.

He also claimed that these attacks were carried out jointly by Western countries and Ukraine. He emphasized that the ships of the Russian navy continue to protect the pipelines.

ARMED SUPPORT PROLONGS WAR

The Russian leader said the war was prolonged because of the Western countries' arms support to Ukraine.

"When the ammunition runs out, Ukraine ends. Western countries themselves say, 'There is no more ammunition in the armory'. If aid to Ukraine is cut off, they can continue for a week at most," Putin said.

Lastly, Putin also touched upon the possibility of Ukraine joining the European Union, stating that the European Union cannot handle such an economy and that Russia has no objection to Ukraine's accession to the EU.
