Turkish police arrests 33 suspects with links to Daesh in Sakarya

Turkish security forces arrested 33 individuals in the northwestern province of Sakarya on suspicion of having ties to the Daesh terrorist group, announced Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on Sunday.

According to Yerlikaya, the suspects were found to be involved in activities such as "preparing for actions ahead of local elections, recruiting individuals for conflict zones, providing financial backing to the organization for terrorism financing, and participating in activities such as constructing illegal mosques and religious schools."

During these operations, authorities seized four unlicensed pistols, two unlicensed rifles, a substantial amount of foreign currency, various materials related to daily life, and numerous banned publications and documents.

Since 2013, Türkiye has designated Daesh as a terrorist organization, becoming one of the first countries to do so.

In response to numerous attacks by the group, which resulted in over 300 deaths and hundreds more injuries in various suicide bombings, bomb attacks, and armed assaults, Türkiye has initiated counterterrorism operations both internally and internationally to prevent further attacks.
