France detains 8 over allegations of financing PKK

A total of eight people were detained in three French provinces on allegations of financing the PKK terrorist group.

According to the French National Counter-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office, the counterterrorism unit of the Paris Judicial Court initiated an investigation into crimes related to the PKK between 2020 and 2024.

The investigation was launched on the grounds of joining a criminal group with the intention of preparing for a terrorist act, financing the terrorist organization, and attempting to extort money in an organized gang manner associated with the PKK.

Eight people were detained Tuesday in the provinces of Seine-Saint-Denis, Seine-et-Marne, and Bouches du Rhone as part of this investigation in France.

Searches were conducted at offices used by Sterk TV and Medya Haber TV, which propagate PKK propaganda, upon the request of a French counterterrorism prosecutor.

In Belgium, federal police raided offices used by Sterk TV and Medya Haber TV, which propagate PKK propaganda, in the town of Denderleeuw in the Flemish Region.

During the operation, computers and numerous documents were seized in the offices.

Police sources stated that the operation, involving more than 200 officers, began at 1:30 a.m. local time and lasted for four hours.

The Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office announced that the operation was carried out upon the request of France, which is conducting an investigation into preventing the financing of terrorism.

3 PKK members deported

Supporters of the terrorist organization opposed the extradition of PKK member Firaz Korkmaz, who was ordered to be deported from France to Türkiye and caused a disturbance at Charles de Gaulle Airport on March 27.

A group of about 20 people attacked the National Removal Unit team taking Korkmaz away.

Mehmet Kopal wanted nationally in France for membership in the PKK armed terrorist group, was brought to Türkiye from France on April 9.

Within the last month, PKK member Serhat Gultekin was also extradited to Türkiye from France.
