Turkish, Azerbaijani flags hoist outside US embassies in response to Armenian protests

Turkish and Azerbaijani flags were flown outside the embassies of respective embassies in Washington in response to a protest by Armenians regarding the events of 1915 in front of the Turkish Embassy.

Members of the Turkish American National Steering Committee (TASC) gathered to counter the Armenian protest.

Banners with messages such as "We have not forgotten the 58 Turkish diplomats and their families killed by ASALA/JCAG (Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia/Justice Commandos of the Armenian Genocide)", "Let history decide," and "U.S. Supreme Court rejects Armenian claims," were displayed at the protest, which was also attended by Meskhetian Turks and Azerbaijanis.

TASC Co-Chair Melih Bektas emphasized the Committee has been responding to Armenian falsehoods and slanders with the support of the Turkish community in America and citizens of Turkish states for the past five years, stressing that the events of 1915 were political in nature.

Azerbaijani citizen Vusal Aliyev supported the Turkish brothers, stating, "We are one nation, two states. This genocide claim is fabricated."

Aliyev recalled President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's call for the opening of archives and investigation of genocide claims, stating: "They use this against Türkiye. There is no such thing. If there were, they would come, the archives would be opened, and everything would be revealed."

Armenians in the U.S. hold protests outside the Turkish and Azerbaijani embassies in Washington every year on April 24 regarding the events of 1915.
