Rescue teams save 3 in Elazig chrome mine collapse

A collapse occurred Monday in a chrome mine in Elazig's Alacakaya district, trapping three workers under the rubble.

One of the workers managed to escape on his own, while emergency teams were dispatched to rescue the remaining two trapped under the rubble.

The incident occurred in a private chrome mine in Kayaonu village for an undetermined reason.

Following the notification, gendarmerie, 112 Emergency Service, and AFAD teams were quickly sent to the area to initiate rescue operations.

Elazig Governor Omer Toraman reported they received a notice of the collapse around 10:04 a.m. at a chrome mine facility near Kayaonu village in the Palu district.

He stated that search and rescue teams worked intensively to reach the workers trapped under the rubble.

In a significant update, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has confirmed that all workers trapped in the collapse have been rescued.

This comes as a relief after the intense search and rescue efforts.

Among the four workers initially trapped, the teams rescued three, and one had escaped earlier.

The Ministry's statement noted that one of the rescued workers endured injuries, but the health conditions of the others are stable. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collapse, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Ministry concluded its statement by wishing a swift recovery for all affected workers and emphasizing the importance of safety during mining operations.
