Hinting at a growth of 16.2% compared to the previous period in 2023, passenger traffic at Turkish airports increased to 29.5 million in two months, as per data released by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI). 

Meanwhile, the count of international passengers surged by 17% compared to the previous year, reaching 15.2 million in the initial two months of the year. Concurrently, domestic travelers saw a 15.5% increase, totaling 14.3 million.

Istanbul's massive airport witnessed a rise in passenger numbers to 11.8 million, marking a 9% increase from the same period in the previous year.

Among these, international passengers grew by 12% to 9.35 million, while domestic passengers amounted to 2.4 million, showing a 1% increase year-on-year. 

At Sabiha Gokcen Airport, also located in Istanbul, the overall passenger traffic surged by 22 %, reaching 6.3 million.

The count of international passengers at this airport increased by 25% to 3.4 million, while domestic passenger traffic rose by 18% to 2.93 million. 

Commercial aircraft traffic across the country's airports experienced an 11.7% growth, totaling 186,661 flights, with international traffic specifically rising by 14.7% to 97,717 flights, according to DHMI. 

Cargo handling at the airports saw a significant increase of 32.7%, reaching 301,220 tons in the first two months compared to last year. 

In February alone, the total passenger count at the country's airports reached 14.8 million, showing a substantial increase of almost 26% from the previous year.

This figure includes 7.2 million domestic passengers and 7.5 million international passengers. 

Compared to February 2023, the plane traffic in February this year grew by 10.4%, totaling 154,308 flights, as reported by the airport authority.
