Preparations are finalized for the ceremonies to be held on March 18th in commemoration of Martyrs' Memorial Day and the 109th anniversary of the Canakkale Naval Victory on the historic Gallipoli Peninsula.

Some 20,000 saplings and thousands of flowers have been planted in the historic area.

Under the coordination of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Canakkale Battles Gallipoli Historical Area Directorate, teams have completed the majority of the work at the Martyrs' Memorial where tomorrow's ceremonies will take place.

Following landscape arrangements led by the Restoration and Construction Work Group Presidency's Martyrs' and Monuments Landscape Applications Coordination, cleaning works were carried out in the ceremony area.

Around the approximately 42-meter-high Martyrs' Memorial located on Hisarlik Hill, 20,000 peony saplings symbolizing the Turkish flag were planted in areas where the "Environmental Arrangement Project" has been completed, along with Turkish Gardens and representative martyrdoms.

In the beautification efforts with ornamental plants and trees, thousands of tulips, hyacinths, cypresses, judas trees, magnolias, larches, junipers, horse chestnuts, lavenders, lavantines, gauras, camellias and begonias were used.

To prevent hazards during landings and takeoffs around the helicopter pads in the Martyrs' Memorial area and Morto Cove, canvas cleaning was carried out with 100 workers, and roadside cleaning was also done on alternative routes leading to the Memorial.

Gravel was laid in the martyrdom area, marble surfaces were cleaned, and maintenance was done on the paths for visitors' comfort.

The installation of tribunes to be used during the ceremonies has also been completed.

Meanwhile, there is a high influx of visitors to the Gallipoli Peninsula.

Among those visiting the martyrdoms and museums are student groups, visitors on municipal tours, and motorcycle enthusiasts.

Ismail Kasdemir, the President of the Canakkale Battles Gallipoli Historical Area, stated that all preparations in the Historical Area have been completed within the scope of the 109th-anniversary celebrations of the Canakkale Naval Victory, and they are ready for tomorrow's grand victory celebrations.

Kasdemir expressed that this year, as every year, they will celebrate this great victory day with the President of the Republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, leading the state officials, the public, veterans, families of martyrs children and youth.

"Once again, we will remember those great heroes, those who made Canakkale impregnable, those who resisted the enemy in Canakkale, and those who made these lands our homeland with great pride, gratitude and respect," he said.
