Türkiye eliminates 2 PKK/YPG terrorists in northern Syria

The Turkish National Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that Türkiye eliminated two PKK/YPG terrorists in northern Syria.

According to the ministry's statement on X, the terrorists were plotting an attack in the Euphrates Shield region.

Since 2016, Ankara has conducted a series of successful counterterrorism operations in northern Syria to prevent the establishment of a terror corridor and facilitate the peaceful resettlement of residents: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).

Additionally, Turkish security forces arrested a PKK/YPG terrorist attempting to illegally cross into Türkiye from Syria, as per security sources.

Acting on intelligence, security forces bolstered border security in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa and detained the terrorist, identified as a member of the PKK/YPG, at the Syria-Türkiye border.

Legal proceedings have started against the terrorist.

In its more than 35-year-long terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK – designated as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and EU – has been accountable for the deaths of over 40,000 individuals, including women, children, and infants. The YPG serves as the PKK's Syrian offshoot.
