Turkish authorities arrest 13 in ops against organized crime group

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 13 suspects have been arrested in the "Mahzen-19" operations targeting an organized crime group led by the fugitive leader Baris Boyun in the Corlu district of Tekirdag.

In a statement on his social media account, Minister Yerlikaya stated that the three-day "Mahzen-19" operations were carried out by the Tekirdag Provincial Security Directorate and the Tekirdag Provincial Gendarmerie Command under the coordination of the General Directorate of Security's Smuggling and Organized Crime Department (KOM).

The operations were directed at the organized crime group led by Boyun, who is currently a fugitive abroad.

Yerlikaya mentioned that the suspects were found to have established the organization with the aim of committing crimes, following instructions given by Boyun from abroad.

He stated, "The suspects have been found to have committed crimes including intentional homicide, armed assault, attempted intentional homicide, theft, and violations of Law No. 6136." As a result of the operations, a cache of weapons and ammunition was seized, including a hand grenade, an AK-47 automatic rifle, two pistols, a shotgun, 74 AK-47 rounds, an AK-47 magazine, 15 pistol rounds, five pistol magazines, 31 shotgun cartridges, three ski masks, and two stolen motorcycles without license plates.

Yerlikaya also added, "Regardless of their scale or location, we will not allow organized crime groups that disrupt the peace of our families to breathe with the prayers and support of our people. Our fight against crime and criminals will continue with determination."
