Türkiye's 8th humanitarian aid ship sets sail for Gaza today

The eighth humanitarian aid ship prepared through collaboration between the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and the General Directorate of Foundations departed from Mersin Port today for the people of Gaza.

A total of 2,960 tons of aid, including 125,000 food parcels prepared for the people of Gaza were loaded onto the vessel named "SARDES" stationed at the dock.

According to a statement from AFAD, Türkiye continues to deliver humanitarian aid materials to civilians in the Gaza Strip targeted by Israeli attacks.

"Just as we have been addressing the needs of all our citizens after the earthquakes on Feb. 6, 2023, we continue to exert great efforts to stand by our Palestinian brothers and sisters in our hearts, especially those who are in difficult situations and subjected to inhumane massacres," AFAD President Okay Memis stated.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Serdar Cam also expressed that under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, they have been contributing to the Palestinian cause for years.

13 planes and 7 ships set sail for Palestinian people 

Türkiye, under the coordination of AFAD and with the support of civil society organizations, has dispatched humanitarian aid materials for the Palestinian people through 13 planes and seven ships.

The cumulative total of humanitarian aid materials sent through ship voyages, air bridges, local procurement, and in cooperation with the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has reached 39,607 tons.

Furthermore, to meet the water needs of civilians in the Gaza Strip, a project was implemented in collaboration with the Egyptian Red Crescent to supply bottled water from Egypt.

Thus far, a total of 1,126 tons of water has been delivered to the region through weekly shipments consisting of five trucks each.
