Turkish intelligence captures PKK leader Demir in Syria

The National Intelligence Organization (MIT) captured Ipek Demir, also known by the code name "Cavre Gever," a purported leader of the PKK/YPG terrorist organization, in Syria's Ain al-Arab (Kobani) and brought her to Türkiye.

MIT captured Demir in an operation against the alleged leaders of the PKK terrorist group.

Demir, who was brought to Türkiye, joined the organization in Hakkari in 2010 and operated in the Zap, Hakurk, Avasin, and Sincar regions for approximately seven years. In 2017, the terrorist organization sent her to Syria.

The PKK has waged a terror campaign against Türkiye for over 35 years, resulting in the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.

The organization is recognized as a terrorist group by Türkiye, the U.S. and the European Union.

Türkiye has consistently raised concerns regarding the tolerance extended to the PKK and its supporters across Europe.
