912 firearms confiscated in 'Mercek-16' ops
Interior Ministry announces that a total of 912 firearms were seized, including 661 unlicensed pistols, during 'Mercek-16' operations targeting individuals carrying illegal firearms and arms traffickers in 71 provinces
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has announced that 912 firearms were seized and legal action was taken against 959 suspects in the "Mercek-16" operations.
Yerlikaya, in a statement on his social media account, stated that in the ongoing "Mercek-16" operations targeting individuals carrying illegal firearms and arms traffickers in 71 provinces by provincial gendarmerie commands and provincial police directorates, a total of 912 firearms were seized, including 661 unlicensed pistols, 35 pistols converted from blank-firing guns, 40 long-barreled rifles, and 176 unlicensed hunting rifles.
Providing information that legal action was taken against 959 suspects during the operations, Yerlikaya said, "I would like our esteemed nation to know that our fight against those obtaining illegal firearms and arms traffickers will continue with determination, with your prayers and support."
Yerlikaya also congratulated the security forces conducting the operations, stating that 696 unlicensed pistols were seized during house, workplace, public area, and road searches in the "Mercek-16" operations.
