Türkiye conducted a major operation known as "KALKAN-19," apprehending 1,177 irregular migrants.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced these results, stressing the widespread impact of the operations conducted via 162 mobile migration checkpoint vehicles across all 30 major Turkish cities.

Minister Yerlikaya emphasized the ongoing commitment to combating irregular migration and human trafficking in his social media declaration.

"Our fight against irregular migration continues unabated during the holiday season," Yerlikaya stated.

He further expressed the government's unwavering resolve, saying: "Rest assured, our operations to prevent irregular migration and smuggling will continue relentlessly across every region of our country."

These operations scrutinized the identities of 22,707 people, focusing significantly on Istanbul, where 103 checkpoints were strategically placed.

This city, often seen as both a destination and transit point for migrants, saw notable enforcement activity.

Authorities promptly initiated deportation proceedings for the captured migrants, handing them over to the Provincial Directorates of Migration Management.

Yerlikaya commended the efforts of all the security forces involved, including the police, gendarmerie and Coast Guard.

"I congratulate our governorates, the Directorate General of Migration Management, and our security forces. May your paths be clear of obstacles," he appreciated.
