Boeing 737's tire burst triggers emergency landing in Turkish airport

A Boeing 737 operated by Corendon Airlines made an emergency landing at Alanya Gazipasa Airport on May 9 due to a burst tire during its approach.

The aircraft, registered as 9H-TJF and servicing the Cologne to Gazipasa route, was forced to land on its nose gear, triggering a swift evacuation of passengers and crew.

This incident follows closely another at Istanbul Airport, where a cargo plane landed on its belly due to an unopened front wheel. Fortunately, like today's event, that incident caused no injury or death.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure released a statement concerning today's emergency: “Following the landing of flight XC1031, the Boeing 738's tire burst, damaging the nose gear. The plane stayed on the runway, and we completed the evacuation of all 190 people on board, comprising 184 passengers and 6 crew members, without any injuries.”

Officials confirmed the runway sustained no significant damage and remains open, with an issued NOTAM to alert incoming flights. Subsequent flights scheduled for Gazipasa have been rerouted to Antalya as a precaution.

"The runway has not suffered any significant damage. Our technical teams are now preparing to remove the aircraft from the runway," the Ministry added, underscoring the efficiency of the airport's emergency response.

The effective management of the incident by the airport's emergency services prevented a larger crisis, leaving passengers thankful for their safety. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure commended the rapid action and professionalism of airport staff and emergency responders.
