On the 5th day of riots in France after a police officer killed a 17-year-old boy, protesters raided the house of the mayor of a town. The mayor said his wife and one of his children were injured.

The mayor of a town in Paris, Vincent Jeanbrun, said on Sunday that his home was raided by protesters on Saturday night and that protesters attacked his house in an attempt to harm him and his family.

Mayor Vincent Jeanbrun said that protesters "rammed a car" into his home before "setting a fire" while his family slept.

"My wife and one of my children were injured," said Jeanbrun, adding that "it was an attempted murder of unspeakable cowardice."

The incident happened on the 5th night of the riots in France.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In France, people took to the streets after traffic police shot and killed a 17-year-old boy trying to escape. Rioters set cars on fire and clashed with security forces.

French president Macron's government has deployed 45,000 police officers as well as as armoured vehicles overnight to tackle the crisis. The president also postponed a state visit to Germany that was due to begin on Sunday due to the ongoing unrest.

More than 2,000 protesters have been detained so far.
