Türkiye rescues 40 migrants pushed back by Greece
40 irregular migrants who were pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greece were rescued by the Turkish Coast Guard as they were about to die off the coast of Kusadasi district in Türkiye's Aydin province.
As the repercussions of the incident in which 82 irregular migrants lost their lives due to the sinking of a boat carrying migrants off the coast of Greece continue, Greece has once again pushed 40 migrants to death in the Aegean.
According to the statement made by the Turkish Coast Guard Command, upon the information that there was a group of irregular migrants in a rubber boat off the coast of Kusadasi district in Türkiye's Aydin province. a Coast Guard boat was dispatched to the area.
The teams rescued 40 irregular migrants who were pushed into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities.
The irregular migrants were sent to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management after the procedures.
On the other hand, human rights organizations are calling on the Greek administration for an "independent and impartial" investigation into the tragedy in which 82 irregular migrants lost their lives and nearly 500 people went missing.
On June 14, a fishing boat carrying irregular migrants capsized in international waters 47 nautical miles from Navarin in Greece's Peloponnese, killing 82 people and rescuing 104 others who were brought to the port of Kalamata. According to the non-governmental organization Alarm Phone, there were about 700 people on board.
