Russia claims control of Ukrainian village of Tonenke

Amid escalating tensions in Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry declared Thursday that the Ukrainian settlement of Tonenke, situated in the Donetsk region, has come under their control.

The village, positioned near the strategically significant transport hub of Avdiivka, has now reportedly fallen into Russian hands, as the ministry announced in an official statement.

According to the statement, the Russian forces executed strikes utilizing hypersonic Kinzhal (Dagger) missiles, specifically targeting the decision-making centers of Ukraine's armed forces.

"The objectives of the strike have been achieved. All objects have been hit," the ministry said.

In response to the military actions, Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klichko reported earlier today that two enterprises in the capital suffered damage because of Russian strikes, with explosions resonating across several districts of Kyiv.

Disturbing images and videos circulated on social media platforms, depicting a towering column of black smoke engulfing the city center.

The series of events unfolded within the context of Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine, which began in early 2022.

Tensions continue to mount, and the situation remains fluid, with potential implications for the wider region.
