Ukraine needs the United Kingdom's (UK) support to strengthen its defense system in Odesa, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
"To ensure the safety of navigation, we need the help of our partners, in particular, a significant strengthening of the air defense system in the Odesa region," Zelenskyy said.
During the meeting, the parties discussed threats to the safety of navigation in the Black Sea and emphasized the importance of the grain agreement for global food security.
Zelenskyy stated that they are ready to continue exporting grain through alternative routes.
"Ukraine has successfully demonstrated three times that it is possible to export grain through alternative routes. We are ready to continue doing this," he added.
The Ukrainian leader also briefed the British Prime Minister on the situation on the front line. The sides noted the importance of defense cooperation between the two countries, including the participation of UK representatives at the Defence Industry Forum in the autumn.
Zelenskyy and Sunak said that they had started work on bilateral security guarantees within the framework of the joint declaration of the G7 countries on support for Ukraine.
