Nakhchivan Corridor laiding, two countries connecting to each other

The foundation of the bridge that will connect Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan via Iran was laid. Iranian Minister of Roads and Urbanisation Mehrdad Bezrpash and Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the bridge to be built on the Aras River near Agbend town of Zangilan.

THROUGH IRANIAN TERRITORY

When the bridge to be built in accordance with the "Memorandum of Understanding between Azerbaijan and Iran on the establishment of new transport links between the Eastern Zangezur economic region of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to pass through Iranian territory" is completed, at least 1100 vehicles will be able to pass through it daily.

CONNECT AZERBAIJAN AND IRAN

Iranian Minister Bezrpash, who traveled to Baku after his visit to Zangilan, was received by President Ilham Aliyev. Aliyev said that the bridge, the foundation of which was laid today, will contribute to further strengthening the relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.

Noting that Azerbaijan is engaged in the creation of transport corridors in both bilateral and multilateral formats, Aliyev noted that the road and railway lines built in the region serve stability and cooperation.

"If Armenia does not pave the way for this, where will it pass? It will pass through Iran. Iran is currently looking at this positively, and since Iran is looking positively, it will be possible to pass from Iran to Azerbaijan,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters on the plane on his return from a visit to Nakhchivan on 25 September about the Zangezur Corridor.

ZANGEZUR CORRIDOR

The Zangezur Corridor or Nakhchivan Corridor is the corridor that will establish a connection between Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is part of the exclave, within the scope of the ceasefire agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

With the realization of the Zangezur corridor, the distance between Azerbaijan and Türkiye is also shortening. The railway line starting from Ankara passes to Kars and from there to Nakhchivan.

The distance of 43 kilometers between Nakhchivan and Azerbaijan is called the Zangezur corridor.
