Yerevan ready to sign peace treaty with Baku by end of year: Armenian PM

Azerbaijan carried out an “anti-terrorist” operation on September 19 to end the 30-year Armenian occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh. After the operation, which lasted only 24 hours, the Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh announced that they laid down their arms. After the Azerbaijani army advanced to the occupied settlements, 130 thousand Armenians crossed Karabakh to Armenia under Azerbaijan's security measures.

REMARKABLE STATEMENT FROM PASHINIAN

After the operation, talks were held between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but no peace agreement was signed. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian announced that Armenia is ready to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan by the end of the year and will ensure the safety of all Azerbaijani citizens on its territory.

The statement, made at a time when the world's attention is focused on Israel and Hamas, was reported by the Russian state agency TASS.

'KARABAKH CONFLICT SOLVED FOREVER'

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, speaking in the Fuzuli region liberated from Armenian occupation, said that the Karabakh conflict had been resolved forever.

"They said there was no solution to the problem through war. We proved that it could be solved (through war) and the issue was closed," Aliyev said.

‘PEACE AGREEMENT POSSIBLE WITH GOODWILL’

Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week that he believed that a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan was possible only if both sides showed goodwill and endeavored to overcome difficulties.

During his visit to Kyrgyzstan on October 13, Putin also spoke about Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, evaluated Azerbaijan's Karabakh operation, and expressed readiness to host peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the capital Moscow.
