Foreign Ministry dismisses Chilean Chamber's recognition of 1915 events as genocide

Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the resolution of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies on the events of 1915.

In its statement, the ministry used the following expressions:

"The resolution adopted by the Chilean Chamber of Deputies yesterday (April 24), recognizing the events of 1915 as 'genocide,' is null and void.

Parliaments do not have the authority to interpret or judge history.

This decision is also contrary to the 1948 U.N. Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which stipulates that genocide can only be adjudicated by a competent court."
