Türkiye aims to reduce dependency on energy imports by deploying domestic, renewable sources

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized the importance of utilizing domestic and renewable sources to reduce dependency on energy imports, stating: "If we can harness our own energy, natural gas, oil and coal resources for the economy, our economy will strengthen accordingly."

Minister Bayraktar met with mukhtars of villages and union representatives at the Justice and Development Party (AK) Party Election Coordination Center in Beypazari district of Ankara.

Bayraktar emphasized the significance of deploying domestic and renewable sources to decrease Türkiye's energy dependency, saying: "In line with these objectives if we can bring our own energy, natural gas, oil and coal resources into the economy, our economy will strengthen accordingly. One of these is for Türkiye to utilize its domestic and renewable resources. We have taken great strides in this direction over the past 20 years."

Bayraktar noted that as part of Türkiye's goal to provide natural gas to every household since 2022, natural gas usage has begun in all 81 provinces, stating: "Natural gas is available in most of our districts. We have brought natural gas to 860 settlements."

'We will increase exploration activities in the Black Sea'

Bayraktar mentioned that the natural gas needs of nearly 1.5 million households are currently met with gas from the Black Sea, stating: "We aim to increase the gas we produce there. For this reason, we continue our exploration activities and related work. We aim to conduct work to end Türkiye's dependency in this regard."

Bayraktar emphasized steps taken toward establishing a youth and family fund with revenues from natural gas, oil, and mining, stating: "The legislative infrastructure for this has also been completed. The law has passed through our parliament. Therefore, we are working to bring all our riches, all our underground riches, into the economy and to put the income generated from there at the service of our valuable citizens."

Stressing that Türkiye's economy will be much more robust when Türkiye frees itself from dependency on energy and mining sectors, Bayraktar said: "Our national income is currently around $12,000 to $13,000. Hopefully, it will rise above $20,000. In this way, we will continue to be a much stronger country that resonates in its region."
