French athletes were banned from wearing hijabs at the Paris Olympic Games to be held in France in 2024.

French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera announced the ban on France 3 channel.

Oudea-Castera reported that athletes on French teams participating in the Olympic Games to be held in the capital Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024 will not be able to wear the headscarf. The French Minister said they were in favour of a strict "secular regime" in sport.

APPEALED TO THE DANISH COUNCIL

The community of footballers known as "Les Hijabeuses" (Les Hijabeuses) had applied to Council of State for the cancellation of this ban, as the French Football Federation (FFF) has not allowed headscarves since 2016.

The first article of the FFF's by-laws prohibits footballers from wearing clothing or symbols of their religious affiliation during matches.

On 29 June, the Council of State upheld the ban on women footballers wearing headscarves in FFF matches.
